In episode #5 of My 2.0, guest Kim Weinberg, Founder of Coach In Motion LLC, talks about her linear career path, when she forced her college to ‘create’ her major in ‘Organised Communication’, a passion she discovered there. That set her off on a path in HR, starting with training, moving to Organization Development and finally finding her juiciest spot yet - YPO forum facilitation.

She loves working with people to uncover and resolve what causes them to be stuck. She describes it as flatlining, experiencing pain of being cooked like a frog in the pot. And that if we don’t want to suffer that fate, we want to pay attention to our itches.

She recommends starting by making sure we know our core values. Then asking the hard questions as we explore what brings us joy, what we are good at and what we can make money in. Keeping in mind the long game of life, and breaking our goals into byte sized journeys.

She is a proponent of having a coach, whether formal or informal. Someone who knows our core values, potential and blinds spots. And is a non-judgemental partner every step of the way.

She talks about the importance of the morning ritual. For her it’s hot water with lemon, stretching, meditation. It’s taking in the quiet that she won’t get once she hits the day running.

She also talks about the importance of mantras. They are the guiding start as we form new habits and rituals and keep us on track.

Her recipe for a successful career transition path is to:

  • Know our core values

  • Live by our core values

  • Design and implement supporting rituals

  • Have a team of people who support you on the journey
